The rainy season is depressing both phisically and mentally.
It seems that everything is going contrary to my expectations-
especially the woman I yearn for becomes nastier and nastier.
She too might be affected by this gloomy weather and not in the
mood for love.

In Japanese classical literature, irises (AYAME) are often depicted
in connection with this season. In this poem, AYAME's root (NE) is
related to the expression "NE O NOMIZO NAKU" (Cry out loud in tears).
AYAME also means phonetically "a pattern for cloth", also denoting
"a criterion". Thus, "AYAME MO SHIRANU KOI" means "Love with no
destination" which appeared in one of the most well-known Wakas
in this country.
